The district headquarter of the Chamoli is situated at an elevation of 1308m amidst beautiful mountain ranges, terrace farms and small lakes, lt is a picturesque place, 10 km from Chamoli with salubrious climate. The ancient temple of Lord Shiva-Shiva Temple attracts thousand of pilgrims throughout the year. Gopeshwar according to legends is where Shiva had reduced Kamadeva (Eros, Cupid) tc ashes.
